During Diabetes Week on Thursday 16 June, Diabetes.co.uk will be conducting a Q&A with renowned diabetes expert and author Dr David Cavan.
Dr Cavan is the author of Reverse Your Diabetes: The Step-by-Step Plan to Take Control of Type 2 Diabetes and follow-up Reverse Your Diabetes Diet: The new eating plan to take control of type 2 diabetes, with 60 quick-and-easy recipes.
Dr. Cavan will be answering questions from the diabetes community live between 7pm-8pm (1900-2000). Questions can be posted in advance on the Diabetes Forum, or posted to our Facebook and Twitter feeds during the live session.
Dr Cavan joined the International Diabetes Federation as Director of Policy and Programmes in 2013, where he strives to improve care and education for people with diabetes across the world.
Previously, he was Consulting Physician at the Bournemouth Diabetes and Endocrine Centre, where he developed expertise in all aspects of diabetes management across type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes.
During this time, Dr Cavan’s research involved the intensive management of type 1 diabetes using multiple injections and pump therapy, and the development of self-management education programmes, such as BERTIE (for people with type 1 diabetes) and the BDEC e-learning programme.
He also worked on the development of dietary management of type 2 diabetes, which led to him releasing Reverse Your Diabetes: The Step-by-Step Plan to Take Control of Type 2 Diabetes in 2014.
In the book, Dr Cavan outlined a simple, clear programme to reverse type 2 diabetes based on the latest medical research. It covers diet, exercise, medication and the importance of family support, as well as promoting self-monitoring of blood glucose for people with type 2 diabetes as a means of effectively designing a diet that works for you. The book quickly became an Amazon Best Seller in the Health Book category.
His 2016 follow-up, Reverse Your Diabetes Diet: The new eating plan to take control of type 2 diabetes, with 60 quick-and-easy recipes, addressed the importance of diet further.
His new book shows you how making changes to your diet can improve your long-term blood glucose levels, potentially reversing type 2 diabetes. It includes 60 low-carbohydrate, no-sugar recipes along with meal plans, and also tackles the myths and misinformation about type 2 diabetes. You can purchase a copy here.
If you want to ask Dr. Cavan a question, send it over and log on before 1900 on Thursday 16 June for the live Q&A.
