Paul Sorvino is an American actor arguably most known for his portrayal of Paul Vario in Goodfellas. He is also the father of actress Mira Sorvino.
In 2006, Sorvino was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes , but this did not stop the actor – who has 150 acting credits to his name – from making films.
Acting career
After attending The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Sorvino made his Broadway debut in the 1964 production of Bajour.
After making the transition into films, he later starred as Henry Kissinger in Nixon (1995) and in Romeo & Juliet (1996). He also appeared in famous television show Law & Order as Detective Sergeant Phil Cerreta.
Diabetes management
Sorvino admits that following his type 2 diabetes diagnosis, his management was not acceptable.
One night, after eating too much pasta, his blood sugar rose so high that he became dizzy.
As Sorvino owns his own food company, Paul Sorvino Foods, which produces Neapolitan pasta sauces, he found transitioning into a managed diet tricky.
Sorvino later started injecting long-acting insulin to control his blood sugar levels , while he is now much more careful with what he eats.
After finding a low-carb pasta, and doing between 40 and 50 squats a day during calisthenics, the veteran actor is more able to control his condition.
