Product guide written by Diabetes Expert: Sue Marshall
For those wary of blood testing , there is an alternative. Not quite so accurate, urine ‘dip sticks’, such as the Diastix from Ascencia Diabetes Care, are a no-fuss way to test if you have sugar in your urine.
How does it tell you? Simple – by changing colour – if you have a lot of sugar in it or not.
Similar to Ascencia Diabetes Care’s Ketostix
Similarly, Ascencia Diabetes Care’s Ketostix so the same job, but pick up on ketones – which you will get if you’ve sustained particularly high sugars for a while.
Both are available over the counter at pharmacies as well as on prescription, so talk to your doctor or pharmacists.
If you think it might be helpful for you to keep a bottle of them in your bathroom cabinet in case you fancy finding out but don’t want to blood test.
