Today’s Diabetes Awareness Month success story is of a retired GP who developed prediabetes and overhauled his lifestyle to successfully improve his health.

Bernard Olsburgh used to run diabetes clinics, and first became interested in the condition when his daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes aged seven.

Following his prediabetes diagnosis, Bernard joined the Low Carb Program. He went on to lose 12kg (1st 12lbs), completely reversing his prediabetes and improving his HbA1c levels to be within a non-diabetic range.

Bernard’s blood pressure has also lowered since ditching high-carb foods such as potatoes and pasta.

Having hugely benefitted from the low carb diet and completely overhauling his health, Bernard still follows a low carb diet and feels healthier than ever.

Bernard’s story is just one of many successes that those who join the Low Carb Program have experienced.

As part of Diabetes Awareness Month we are sharing people’s success stories. On Monday we showcased the story of Stefan, who cancelled weight loss surgery and instead went low carb. Ten months later he had put his type 2 diabetes into remission.

All of the case studies we have covered so far are available on our News section.

We are encouraging everyone use social media to help promote and become involved with Diabetes Awareness Month by posting using the hashtag #StrongerTogether.

The multi-award-winning Low Carb Program is demonstrated to help patients with type 2 diabetes, prediabetes and obesity sustainably lose weight, improve blood glucose control and reduce diabetes medications. At 1 year, peer-reviewed research shows 26% of participants who completed the program were in remission.
