Beta cells
The body is made up of millions of cells, many of which have very specific properties. Some of the cells in the pancreas called beta cells produce, store and release insulin, the hormone used to convert glucose into energy.

In cases of diabetes, however, these unique cells are either mistakenly attacked by the body or gradually wear out, causing problems with blood glucose control.
